Shawn Caleb’s Story
In the fall of 2007 Shawn Caleb Worthen started kindergarten at Community Christian School (CCS) in Russellville, Arkansas. He fell in love with his school and his teacher, Mrs. Lori Ball. He loved his new friends; one in particular, Yuri Allen McDaniel. They played together at school and became best friends. Many times Shawn Caleb said, “I wish Yuri was my brother.” They were as close as David and Jonathan in the Bible. Saturday, May 23rd, 2008, they both graduated from kindergarten at Community Christian School. The following Friday evening Yuri was shopping with his family. He collapsed in a store and was rushed to the hospital. That night Yuri passed away.
During the summer, Shawn Caleb and his dad talked a lot about Yuri. He really missed his best friend. Sometimes he would pretend that Yuri was still with him. When school started in the fall, CCS relocated to a larger facility. It was not the same without his best friend but Shawn Caleb, loved his new school building. He is quick to tell you there are five things he likes: the big playground, the new classrooms, the Bible being taught along with other subjects, the Ten Commandments displayed in the front office and his two favorite teachers Mrs. Lori Ball and Ms. Vanessa Byrum. The school had plans to rent this building for one year with the option of purchasing it at the end of 12 months. To make a long story short, CCS lacks the funds to purchase the building.
Shawn Caleb and his dad have decided to raise this money to purchase the building in June with a bowling fundraiser in memory of Yuri Allen McDaniel. Their goal is to raise $400,000. There are two ways you can help: first, sponsor Shawn Caleb and his dad to bowl in this fundraiser, one game for $25, two games for $50 or three games for $75. Second, if God has blessed you financially, please consider donating to the CCS building fund.
